Ahead of 2023 polls, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has received the blessing of the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
Tinubu received the blessing yesterday at the country home of Pa Fasoranti in Ijapo, Akure, the Ondo state capital.
It would be recalled that some few months ago, the acting leader of the group, Ayo Adebanjo, endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
The development has continued to generate reactions especially within the Yoruba race.
The APC standard bearer had arrived in the state to present his Action Plan on how to reposition the country to the Yoruba cultural and political organisation.
The 80-page Action Plan document christened Renewed Hope, was formally launched in Abuja on 21 October by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tinubu prayed that God will spare the life of Pa Fasoranti to witness his inauguration as President after the general election next year.
Security alert: Buhari summons emergency security meeting today
This is amidst reports that Afenifere is backing the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.
Meanwhile, Makinde announced his stand in Akure, Ondo State capital when the former Governor of Lagos State visited the state to meet with the Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
Represented by his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said although they belong to different political parties, he is in support of the decision of the Afenifere and Yoruba
race.
Speaking in Yoruba language, he said: “Since he became Governor of Oyo State, he never played down the interest of Yoruba land.
“There was no time Baba called him that he didn’t respond. There was no event he is invited to, whether by Afenifere or any group in Yoruba land where Engineer Makinde doesn’t play a part.
“Now, we are different by a political party but we are one by tribe. For this reason, what he asked me to assure you is that in Yoruba land, whatever you have agreed to do, he is in support,” said Lawal while delivering Governor Makinde’s message at the gathering of political and Yoruba stakeholders.
