AGF receives list of 35 indicted SARS officers
A list of 35 indicted officers from the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has been handed to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tony Ojukwu, led a team to the Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters in Abuja.
The AGF received the list of the indicted officers who have been recommended for prosecution and outright dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force. The officers have been drawn from 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking with newsmen, Ojukwu said that the affected SARS officers were found culpable of offences that range from extra-judicial killings, threat and intimidation, seizure of properties, unfounded allegations, illegal blockage of bank accounts of innocent citizens as well as unlawful arrest and detention.
He further stated that their indictment was contained in a voluminous report that was prepared by a three-man committee that was set-up to review and advise the federal government on implementation of recommendations of the Presidential Panel on Reform of SARS.
