Aiyede Onize set to release “Kukururku Girl: Tales of My Childhood”

A Right Activist and Gender Advocate, Ms. Aiyede Onize has stated that her influence and motivation for the book was the need to document her childhood experience which she has compiled into a book as part of contribution to human capital development.

In a press release made available to journalists unveiling the date for the presentation of the book titled: ” Tales of My Childhood”, Aiyede noted that the ” A first novel by that title will be publicly presented at The Garden Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos on Saturday April 9, 2022.”.

Onize Edith Aiyede is the author of Kukuruku Girl: Tales of My Childhood, a remarkable collection of stories of her formative years in Igarra in the northern part of Akoko-Edo in Edo state.

According to her: ” The title suggests, the novel is about the author’s younger years in her natal town at the foot of the famous Kukuruku Hills from which the title is derived”.

A reviewer has described her first attempt as a “candid delivery of experiences which were fun and tragic at some point while revealing other aspects which were mischievous and humbling.”

Described as a woman of many parts, Ms Aiyede is a professional realtor, holds a diploma in Estate Management from Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo state and an MBA from Oxford University Washington DC, USA.

Aiyede is a child rights advocate and gender equality campaigner. She is also a cultural activist. Of course, she serves dollops of the culture of her town in the publication.

Writing the Foreword, for instance, Edi Lawani, promoter and special events consultant, insists that “the essence of her cultural heritage pops out very strongly and this makes the collection of stories take on a historical dimension.”

Meanwhile, high-profile guests from academia, Igarra people in the diaspora and the entertainment industry are expected at the public presentation of the book which will begin at 4 pm on the 9th of April, 2022.
