All 13 wives now turned widows of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi are now available to remarry any suitor following the death of the king but are restricted from remarrying indigenes of Oyo.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi passed on late on Friday, April 22 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State, at the age of 83.
Besides, it has also been revealed that all the 13 wives of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, may now be available to suitors without undergoing cleansing rituals after the demise of the renowned monarch.
Although some of the wives of the late Alaafin left him while some walked out of the marriage, palace sources told Peoples Gazette that the late Alaafin’s wives may now move on with their normal lives and remarry if they choose.

“They are not performing any cleansing; They are free to move on with their lives,” he said. Nonetheless, he said. “The wives cannot get married to an indigene of Oyo.”
He added, “Now that Alaafin is dead, they all would be asked to exit the palace with their belongings. Although the properties of the late monarch would be shared among them,” he said in noting that the wives of the late Alaafin could remarry but not to any indigene of Oyo.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled the government and people of Oyo State over the passing of the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi III. The reign of the Alaafin, aged 83 years, covered major historic transitions in the country, the president said.
The president, in a condolence message by his media aide, Femi Adesina, on Saturday in Abuja, noted that Mr Adeyemi’s reign witnessed transformations in his domain.
He said the Alaafin of Oyo’s 52 years of rule was remarkable. Most significant was the emphasis he placed on human development, encouraging learning as a culture and formal education as a necessity, he added.
He particularly lauded the late traditional ruler for promoting values of peace and stability.

Also, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has mourned the passing of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who joined his ancestors on Friday.
In a statement on Saturday by Governor Abiodun’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, the governor described the monarch’s death as a tragic and occurred when least expected.
Governor Abiodun, the statement further explained that the death of Oba Adeyemi has created a huge vacuum in the traditional and historical societies, saying that “his death is also a great loss because Nigeria will miss the services of a great reservoir of knowledge and historical narrations.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has sent condolence messages to the Government and people of Oyo State following the death of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
Governor Wike, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, said it was with a deep sense of shock and sadness that he learned of the passing of His Royal Majesty, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
“I wish to convey, on behalf of the Government and the people of Rivers State, my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the Royal family, Government, and people of Oyo State on this sad loss.”
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has joined his counterparts to mourn the passing of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away on Friday at the age of 83.
He commiserated with the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the people of the ancient town of Oyo and the entire Yoruba both home and in the diaspora over the demise of the first-class traditional ruler.

He urged the family, friends, and associates of the deceased as well as the entire people of Oyo Kingdom, whose interests the late Iku Baba Yeye represented and worked tirelessly for during his lifetime to work towards immortalizing him and ensuring that the legacies of the late Alaafin of Oyo are sustained.
