AMAC Chairman wants Nigeria’s history to be taught in schools

Mr. Abdullahi Candido, Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has called on teachers to teach the younger generations the history of Nigeria, to promote patriotism and unity in the country.

Candido made the call during an anniversary luncheon organized to commemorate the country’s 61st-anniversary celebration, on Monday in Abuja.

He said that it was important to emulate the attributes of past nationalists and the sacrifices they made for the country, such as Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Aminu Kano among others.

“According to Mr. Presidents’ speech on Oct. 1, we have been admonished to be disciplined, love one another, and live in peace.

“We at the area council we have added in particularly, we are addressing the youths, pupils of primary and secondary schools and we have charged the teachers to teach Nigerians the history of this country.

“They must teach us how to be nationalistic, patriotic and how to live in peace with one another,” he said.

Candido added that as potential leaders, Nigerians should endeavor to preach unity and patriotism in whatever they do.

The chairman urged politicians who are in leadership positions not to wait to be criticized before they perform their responsibilities.

He also called on the leaders of the council to build on the achievements, legacies, and projects of his administration.

Candido who noted that the beauty of governance was when there was continuity in governance, stressed that all focus should be on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

Group urges community radio to give voice to ordinary people

Some of his administrations’ projects include the recently inaugurated AMAC Community Radio, AMAC Microfinance Bank, AMAC Marshal, AMAC Investment and Property
Development Company, among others.

Mr. Abbas Baba, APC Chairman in the council, who lauded the chairman for his developmental strides also called on members of the party to work together for the progress of the council.

He also tasked the members with unity and peace for the sustainability of the party in government.

The event had in attendance members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), AMAC staff, councilors, political appointees, members of the press, among others.
