The governorship ambition of Sir. Paul Chukwuma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state may have been dashed as he announced his resignation from the party.
Chukwuma, a businessman, in a letter dated April 3, 2025 to the APC Chairman in ward 2, Umueri, Anambra East local government area announced his resignation from the party.
The sudden development has further heightened the politics of bad blood and high level intrigues that has trailed the party since its controversial ward Congress held three weeks ago leading to the governorship primaries of the APC slated for Saturday April 5, 2025 in the state.
The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), APC and Labour Party (LP) are expected to hold their governorship primaries on Saturday.
There have been questions amongst concerned stakeholders and individuals about the modalities and conditions for the conduct of the exercise in the state.
According to Chukwuma in the letter which he personally signed, “I write to formally to notify you of my resignation as a card carrying member of All Progressives Congress, (APC).”
He said his “decision” to resign, “finds expression in my quest to connect Anambra state to National politics by building a broader and all encompassing political movement within Anambra state in support of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.”
“While thanking you for your leadership over this years, he rest assured of my continued support to our shared progressive ideas as I will devote more time to pursuing the realization of a safe and prosperous Anambra of our dream,” he said.
Recall that Sir. Paul Chukwuma is from the same LGA and Senatorial district of the immediate past governor of Anambra, Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano, who was on the saddle for eight years at the Agu Awka Government House.
The state chapter of the APC is enmeshed in neck deep crisis as billionaire governorship aspirants go for the jugular for the party structure and ticket of the APC ahead of the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial contest in the state.
