The Minister while inspecting the roads charged the contractors to complete the jobs by December this year as the streets would be commissioned for use in December.
The projects are the 25km Kwaita-Yebu road and the 11km Yangoji-Sukuku-Eba road projects in the Area Council.
While charging the youths of the area council to shun the planned hunger protest scheduled for August 1 to 10, he urged the organisers to shun the move because the FCT is working.
“If you come to the FCT, you will appreciate the fact that it is working, and if FCT is working, why are you telling its residents to come and protest?
“We will quite appreciate the level of hunger, but we said, we should sit down and talk about it than to give room for hooligans to perpetrate crime against innocent Nigerians.”
The Minister said that no right-thinking government would fold its arms and allow people to come and cause mayhem, and destroy property and we go back to square one.
“So with what we are doing, you can see the people of Abuja are happy, they appreciate the level of work that is going on, and we say, seeing is believing.
We’ve been to all the area councils, and tomorrow we will be at Abaji to see the construction going on there. So, I think people appreciate and know. It is not carrying propaganda.
“To the contractors, the date is December and we are not going to extend I have confidence in Gilmour and other contractors who are involved in the construction of these roads in the satellite towns that they would keep to the promises they have made.
“As from our part in terms of funding, we will not delay. It will not be our problem that we will go and delay the finishing of these roads. They know that we have been funding them and we will continue to fund them,” Wike said.
