Governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the November 6 election in Anambra State, Dr. Godwin Maduka on Wednesday pledged to tackle hunger through agriculture, security of lives and property, youth and women employment programmes as major focus if elected as governor of the state.
He noted that war against when effectively tackled would make the people to be happy and with energy to work when they are also secured by relevant and guaranteed security forces.
Dr. Maduka who spoke during a press conference in Awka the state capital said hunger had become the most challenge issue facing most people in the state, stressing that the immediate priority of his government would be to ensure three square meals daily for every resident of the state.
He pointed out that the fight against insecurity would be accorded priority, adding that he would create a forum that would make criminals elements turn a new leaf.
On the spate of unemployment ravaging the polity, the United States-trained pain management expert assured that he would strive to stop medical tourism abroad but main transformation would be enthroned in the state health sector that it parades an international medical tourism centre.
According to the Governorship candidate, “The health sector in the state is just in a sad condition. Our people do not have access to qualify health delivery services, and, I have six health centres in US alone. So, I will use my international contacts to transform Anambra state into a global tourism centre”.
He revealed being forced to cross over to Accord party to contest the governorship election due to manipulations by the People Democratic Party (PDP).

The popular politicians and philanthropist explained that there was “pressure from people of the state who desire that I should be Governor of Anambra state, because, of my acts of philosophy which they have seen”.
“I would have won in the PDP primary, but, they changed the list of the delegates three times on that day, and, at the end, the selected their preferred candidate”, he stated.
He harped on the need to expand the Onitsha seaport through the Atlantic Ocean to link the state with the world’s economic investment and economic heavy weights towards boosting the huge potentials and economy of the state.
Maduka further promised to give reasonable percentage in political appointment to women in his government in line with his believe that they contribute positively to human capital development index globally.
