The Chairman of the National Peace Committee General Abdulsalami Abubakar has appealed to candidates in the Anambra Governorship election to abide by the letter and spirit of the Peace Accord which they have all signed together.
He made this appeal in Awka, the Anambra State Capital on Thursday noting that the place of peace in any election cannot be glossed over.
He told candidates that the Peace Accord is not just a mere exercise but a clarion call to them all to commit all to it for a peaceful election.
Speaking, further, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Professor Mahmood Yakubu said INEC has done all it should make the electoral process smooth against incredible odds.
He appealed for violence-free polls saying if the election is not violence-free, the entire electoral process will be undermined.
The event which is organized by National Peace Committee (NPC) was started by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah to engender peace amongst politicians and their supporters were attended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba Alkali represent by DIG Joseph Egbunike who is a native of Anambra state.

Others are the Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Anambra state, the leadership of all the political parties, and Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairmen National and Anambra State Chapter.
Voters in Anambra will elect a new governor on Saturday 6th, November 2021 despite threats by IPOB and other groups threatening to foment trouble. The security agents have assured the voters of their preparations to curtain any form of threat from any quarters.
