Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano may have set the stage for an intense battle with members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as he orders all commercial banks, markets, business outlets and others to throw open their gates and premises against the Sit-At-Home directive by the group.
The latest executive order was part of the security meeting with stakeholders held in Awka the state capital.
It was learnt that key decisions reached the meeting with security chiefs centred on security situation and strategies towards ensuring full resumption and unhindered socio-economic activities in all parts of the state, with effect from Monday 13th September 2021.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Mr C. Don Adinuba said the decision followed the directive yesterday (Friday) by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, to banks to operate fully on every working day throughout the state, it has become necessary to explain to the people of Anambra State that the order also affects other sectors of our people’s socio-economic life.
Dinuba said yesterday (Sunday), “We have asked banks to open for normal banking activities from Monday to Friday.”
Giving further clarifications on the order as against the sit at home order by IPOB, he explained that “Those people are non-state actors, they don’t have any right to ask people to stay at home. We have put enough security measures in place to protect people from those non-state actors so you can go out to look for your daily bread from Monday to Friday.”
“The government did not ask anybody to stay at home. So, there’s enough security to protect and you and I in the streets of Anambra state and the Southeast,” he added.
