Anambra govt seals off popular club over lady’s death

The Anambra State government has sealed off the popular Fame Club complex inside Cosmila Hotel located in Awka.

The action followed the report of the death of a lady, Miss Chinyere Awuda in the hotel.

This is as the police have confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the death.

Those arrested by the police include the celebrant of the birthday bash and three others.

The Police Public Relations Office of the state command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga also confirmed the development in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

 

Miss Awuda was said to have been beaten to death by some fun seekers, (clubbers) who were in the hotel last weekend, to celebrate the birthday of their friend.

Different accounts had it that Miss Awuda’s died after she was beaten by some people after she was accused of picking and pocketing money being sprayed on the celebrant.

Others said she stole some money meant to be sprayed on the celebrant and escaped before she was apprehended.

The state Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Hon Don Onyeji also confirmed that the hotel had been sealed off.

Onyenji in a telephone interview on Thursday said, “Yes, we have visited the hotel, and also sealed it off. We are in touch with the police, who are already investigating the matter, and the facility will remain sealed, pending the outcome of the police investigation.”
