Candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) for the November 6th Governorship election in Anambra state Senator Andy Uba on Tuesday vowed to ensure the conduct of local government poll six months after he emerged elected governor of the state.
Senator Uba stated this during the inauguration of 27 directorates of the Senator Andy Uba Governorship Campaign Organisation, (SAUGCO) held in Awka the state capital.
This is as elders and leaders of the APC have expressed their determination to jointly work towards ensuring the party’s victory across the state.
It would be recalled that from 1999 to date, Anambra state has conducted one local government election during the administration of former Governor Peter Obi.
The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) government under the seven and half years of Governor Willie Obiano in the state, no local government has been held in the state.
But the APC candidate, Senator Uba, said that with the conduct of local government election the youths and people in the 21 local areas and three Senatorial districts of the state would be adequately empowered to curb the problem of youth restiveness and poverty a Ross the state
According to him, local government administration was critical to the development of the state, pointing out that with duly elected government at the grassroots, wealth would be evenly distributed amongst the problem in the state.
“I will conduct local government election six months after being sworn in as governor of Anambra state. With the local government in place, there will be the creation of wealth at the local level. Youths and others who cannot be at the state level would be empowered ” he said.
He enjoined newly inaugurated members of the directorate of his campaign organization to immediately move into the 526 wards and units to mobilize people ahead of the November poll.
He noted that elections are won and lost at the polling units and not state capital, stressing that votes must count in the election and nobody should be deceived that somebody would be in the comfort of his room and write the results.

“Everybody must be at work now to ensure that the party wins this election. Grassroots mobilization is critical to winning any election. The election is won and lost at the wards and units and not in Awka,” he said.
He also called on the team to move into local government, units, and wards and mobilize people for the party’s victory even as he advised members of the directorates not to engage in any form of propaganda but to be concerned with the party’s manifestoes which is mainly about taking the state to a greater height.
“What we need is telling the people about our manifestoes and not behaving like others who are attacking without raising issues. We need facts in our campaign and not propaganda” he added.
