Anambra: Obiano’s aide raises alarm over alleged plot to arrest key state govt officials

Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Mr. C Don Adinuba on Thursday raised the alarm over alleged plans to arrest key state government officials over alleged trump up charges.

He said the evil move by the perpetrators was uncovered through credible intelligence reports that members of a certain political party intended to use the instrumentality of the state to arrest the top government officials.

Adinuba alleged that the clandestine plot was part of designs aimed at hijacking the November 6 Governorship election slated for Saturday this week.

The commissioner in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka the state capital noted that one of the meetings on how to use coercive apparatus of the state was held in the capital town.

Adinuba how said that, “None of the heads of national security agencies is aware of this plot.”

According to him, “The desperate politicians want to use certainly compromised operatives working without the knowledge, let alone the support, of the national heads of the security agencies to perpetrate this act.”

“The Anambra State Government has received credible intelligence reports about moves by members of a certain political party to use the instrumentality of the state to arrest key officials of the State Government anytime on trumped-up charges, so as to hijack the gubernatorial election holding on Saturday, November 6, 2021. One of the meetings was on how to use the coercive apparatus of the state to carry out this plot has just been held in Awka, the Anambra State capital,” he said.

This is “to bring the evil plans to the knowledge of all Anambra people but also to the attention of all relevant authorities for prompt action.”

The state government urged the people of the state to go about their normal business while the government takes the necessary steps to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election on Saturday.

“All our people are enjoined to go about their normal business while the State Government takes every necessary action to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election on Saturday. The elections in the State in the last few years have been very free and fair. We will continue to do everything possible to maintain the new tradition of free and fair polls.”
