Prominent stakeholders and elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State have cautioned the party’s national leadership against moves to dissolve the state executive, describing such action as dangerous, unnecessary, and destabilising.
The warning came over the weekend after a meeting of the PDP Elders Council in Awka, hosted by former Vice Presidential candidate Senator Ben Obi and attended by key party leaders, including former Minister of Women Affairs Mrs. Josephine Anenih.
In a communiqué signed by Chief Felix Oli (Chairman) and Dr Odili Ojukwu (Secretary), the elders insisted that the Anambra PDP executive is functioning effectively and enjoys the support of stakeholders across the state.
They dismissed as “falsehoods and propaganda” reports suggesting a crisis within the structure.
“The current Anambra State PDP Executive is performing admirably well. There is relative peace within the party, and all stakeholders are being actively engaged. No injustice has been meted out to any member, and the executive maintains a strong working relationship with the NWC,” the communiqué stated.
The leaders warned the National Working Committee (NWC) that any attempt to tamper with the state executive council would amount to undermining internal cohesion and could cast doubt on the credibility of both the November 2025 Anambra governorship election and the party’s National Convention.
They emphasised that the Elders Council is fully behind the state executive and would resist any “fifth columnists” plotting to destabilise the party ahead of crucial polls.
“Any attempt to disrupt or dissolve the legitimately elected Executive Committee would be a direct invitation to instability and unrest in the state,” the elders cautioned.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the Damagum-led national leadership, the council praised the NWC for conducting what they described as one of the freest and fairest congresses in Anambra.
They also clarified that there is no pending legal action against the state executive, urging the party to disregard rumours and misinformation.
“The NWC must not allow itself to be manipulated into undermining its own success,” the statement added.
The elders pledged continued support for the PDP’s national organs but urged caution against divisive elements seeking to weaken the party from within.
