Anambra PDP targets 163,000 new members ahead of Nov 6 Governorship Poll

Leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in  yesterday commenced the registration of new members with distribution of materials for the vital exercise aimed at bringing on board an estimated 163, 000 new members ahead of the November 6 Governorship election in the state.

The exercise to be conducted in the 326 wards across the 21 local government areas would target at least 500 members in each ward in order to shore up its members.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief  Ndubuisi Nwaobu disclosed this during the stakeholders meeting held at the party’s Secretariat, Awka the state capital, which heralded the distribution of the registration materials to the party’s  chairmen in the 21 local government areas of the state.

He said the exercise would not toe the same path like what other political parties had done to coarse people to join them, stressing that it is for those who are eager and determined to pitch tent with the PDP in order to rid the state of years of abssymal performance by the outgoing Governor Willie Obiano led government under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Chief Nwaobu who stressed the registration exercise would help sensitize and galvanize new members to join hands to vote out the present administration and to enthrone a new order so that the people heave sighs of relieve under the PDP led government both in the state and at the federal levels , noted that the ruling All Progressives Congress led federal government has failed Nigerians with its change mantra.

“In addition to old members, this exercise will be targeting 500 new members across the 326 wards and urban centers in Awka and beyond. The essence of this is that it is not like other parties. It is for those who are prepared and eager as individuals; our mothers and father’s, brothers and sisters, we are sensitizing them to on their own there is no pressure, to get to be members of our party.

According to him, the exercise would boost the PDP’s support base towards pulling the rug odd the feet of present lackluster administration of the ruling APGA in November 6,3021 in the state and the APC led government of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 Presidential poll.

He said the ruling party at the center has failed Nigerians with its “change mantra” and there is now greater insecurity, nepotism, total disharmonny, corruption, unemployment and other vices in the polity.

“These have been the hallmark of the APC led federal government and coming back here, our Anambra state has been held backwards for the paat seven years and it is only the PDP that can checkmate the directionlessness of APGA in order to offer the much needed development strides for peace, progress and unity of people of the state.

He warmed that there would be no basis to deny anybody from being registered as a team of monitoring committee set up by the state chapter of the party would go round to ensure progress and smooth conduct of the exercise in all the wards across the local government areas.

Nwaobu also urged members of the food to see the registration exercise as a call to duty and an avenue to sensitize and mobilize both old and new ahead of the task towards rewriting the history of bad governance and bring about a new order in the state.

On efforts to resolve all internal disputes and bring all aggrieved members on board as the Governorship election inches closer, the PDP helmsman added that “politics is a big game and resolution of disputes is also a regular feature among political actors.

He explained further that “leadership is the ability to harness all the issues within and around the fold for a harmonious relationship and progress even as he assured the party’s  resolve to work round the clock towards bringing on board all aggrieved persons for a united front.
