Anambra: Peter Obi, others rally support for Ozigbo Candidacy

Vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), in the 2019 general election, Mr. Peter Obi and other major stakeholders of the party on Thursday urged all aggrieved members of the party following the outcome of the party’s gubernatorial primary ahead of November 6 governorship election in Anambra state to Sheathe their swords and rally round the candidate, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo to ensure the victory.

Leading the support for Ozigbo is the former national secretary of the party, Board of Trustees (BoT), member, Senator Ben Obi who also joined forces with Obi, and several others to appeal to any Aggrieved member of the party to drop his or her anger and to work hard to ensure that PDP wins the governorship poll.

This came as the PDP candidate in the November 6 governorship election, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo assured the teeming members of the party that all issues of litigation about his candidature would soon be resolved.

The duo of Peter Obi and Senator Obi reminded the PDP members that it was clear even before the primary that one person must be chosen as a candidate of the party for the governorship election.

They noted that the choice of Ozigbo out of the 16 contestants was God’s decision, and, such his candidacy would guarantee PDP victory, and, usher in good governance in the state.

The party chieftains charged Ozigbo not to relent, but, to continue with his vigorous peace meetings with any aggrieved members, particularly, others who lost to him during the primary.

Both key leaders of the PDP and Ozigbo spoke during the stakeholder’s meeting held at the Oma Event Centre, Awka, the state capital.

The event was to also formally unveil to the PDP members a former Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, Mrs. Azuka Enemuo as his running-mate to Ozigbo.

Ozigbo assured that all the legal tussles against his candidacy would soon be resolved in his favor.

He urged the PDP leadership at all levels to brace up for serious work so that the election can be a walk in the park

Ozigbo also called on the party faithful not to spare anything to ensure total victory for PDP on November 6 guber polls noting that PDP remains the only password for the state as all other political parties jostling for governorship position are counterfeits.

The PDP candidate said that his local government campaign tour would commence on August 9 in line with the INEC calendar even as he appreciated the party leadership for their support during the primary and the expected support in the days ahead.

Mr Ozigbo noted that his victory during the PDP primary is actually a victory for Anambra State and her people.

He said further that his aspiration, a divine mandate is hinged on ‘Ka Anambra Chawapu’

“All members of PDP NEC, BoT, PDP governors, and other stakeholders in other political parties are rooting for us and with that level of support, there is no need to contemplate moving to another political platform. This is PDP’s time to shine and produce an Anambra State governor. I cannot overemphasize this.” He said.

Ozigbo at the occasion apologized to anyone who is still aggrieved after the party primary to let go and that all and sundry should concentrate on how PDP would win the November 6 governorship election.
Various speakers, including former chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Cosmas Agagbo, member of House of Reps, Mrs. Eucharia Azodo, state Assembly members, lamented that the party had been out of power in the state for about 16 years now due to internal bickering, and, expressed confidence that Ozigbo’s candidacy would restore the governorship seat to the party.

Though none of the other governorship aspirants who contested the ticket with Ozigbo was present at the meeting which had in attendance a mammoth crowd of the party supporters across the state.
