Anambra Poll: Respect for principles of zoning key to equity, justice – Bishop

By Cajetan Mmuta
The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Anambra State, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor has called on governorship aspirants in the November 6 election in the state to respect zoning arrangements in the interest of equity, justice, and fair play.

Ezeofor stated this during his speech presented at the first session of the Sixth Synod of the Diocese held at Saint John the Divine Church, Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.

The Prelate who backed the zoning of the Governorship seat to the South senatorial district advised aspirants not from the South to have a rethink in order to ensure peace remains in the state even after the election.

He said, “The Zoning of the Governorship seat to the Anambra South senatorial district should be supported. All governorship aspirants who are not from the South should have a rethink in the interest of equity, justice, and fair play.”

Ezeofor also regretted the high rate of uncertainty in different parts of the country occasioned by insecurity, calling for concerted efforts to check the ugly trend.

He also canvased for a holistic restructuring of the Nigerian nation to save the people from agony and untold hardship.

“Federal Government should map out far-reaching measures that will guarantee the safety of Nigerians where ever they reside. It should also respect the sanctity of various institutions in making appointments especially the Judiciary, to restore people’s confidence in them as the last hope of the common man,” he added.

The cleric further called on the State government to seek lasting solutions towards serious security challenges and threats truncating the peace and development of the State.

He stressed that no meaningful life, progress, and investment could be expected in a place where people were not sure of their safety.

While praising Governor Willie Obiano for fulfilling his promise of completing the passenger and cargo airport project in the state without borrowing, Ezeofor expressed confidence that the project would improve the state revenue profile, in addition to offering employment to the teeming youths.

Speaking on the Synod theme, “Divine Principles of Transformation Discipleship”, the Prelate charged Christians to go into more action in the society to bring revolution which would eventually transform the society.

He enjoined members of Knights of the Diocese to be steadfast in their duties as soldiers of Christ, stressing that those found wanting in their role would be shown the way out.
