Anambra: Umeoji emerges candidate of 3rd faction of APGA

Unrelenting aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra state are poised for a total showdown as they again on Thursday elected Chief Umeoji Chukwuma as the Governorship candidate of the party for the November 6 election in the state.

Chief Umeoji was elected during the Party’s Governorship primary held at Wonderland Recreation ground by a faction in Awka the state capital.

He scored 904 votes to beat his opponent Mrs. Elizabeth Nweke who polled 73 votes out of the total number of delegates who participated in the exercise.

With the emergence of Umeoji, the ruling APGA has produced three candidates under its umbrella to contest for the Governorship poll in the next five months.

Members of the party had on June 23, 2021, at the popular Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center,Awka, voted for former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo as the Party’s flag bearer.

Also, two days after, Chief Edozie Njoku was elected as the candidate of another faction of APGA, an exercise that was held in the capital town.
However, a member of the State House of Assembly who spoke on condition of anonymity said only the court would have a final say on who is the authentic candidate of the APGA as a political party.

He added that members of the party at the grassroots gathered and elected Umeoji as their candidate with the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Speaking at the end of the process, the party’s Governorship candidate Chief Chukwuma Umeoji in his acceptance speech commended the party National leadership, members, and the delegates for choosing him as the preferred candidate for the November 6 gubernatorial election in the state.

He pledged to build viable infrastructure across the three Senatorial Districts of the state; improve on the education sector, healthcare delivery system, and massive availability of food through agriculture for the general well-being of people of the state.
