Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has said that the anti-open grazing law passed by some state governors in the South cannot be implemented.
El-Rufai said this on Tuesday during a visit to the All Progressives Congress National Secretariat in Abuja.
ThisNigeria reports that some states in the South including, Rivers, Ekiti, Lagos, Enugu, Osun and Ondo states, have signed the anti-open grazing bill into law
But speaking on the law, the Kaduna governor said that the situation was being politicized in the South.
“Northern States Governors Forum has already taken a position that open grazing is not a sustainable way of livestock production. And we must move towards ranching.
7 states to recruit 3,000 vigilantes to batlle banditry, says Masari
“But moving towards ranching cannot be done overnight. We have to plan, we have to have resources and we have to implement it sensibly. It is not a matter of populist legislation or saying tomorrow this or that. It is not a solution.
“What is unhelpful is the politicizing of the situation and pass legislation that you know that you cannot implement.”
“Kaduna State would require at least N114 billion to put together 14 ranches to fully settle herders and their families,” he said.
