Anxiety has mounted across the 336 electoral wards, 21 local government areas, and three senatorial districts of Anambra State amid high expectations by delegates who are to elect candidates of the three major political parties at the governorship primaries scheduled on Saturday in the state.
At the moment, leaders and stakeholders of the State chapters of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Labour Party (LP) are unsure about the modalities and guidelines set for the smooth conduct of the exercises.
Efforts to speak with the parties’ leadership on their level of preparations and stipulated guidelines proved abortive.
They refused to comment on the developments, raising concerns about the uncertainty in the air.
It was learnt that the ruling APGA in the state has only one aspirant: incumbent State Governor Prof Charles Soludo.
The party delegates are said to have concluded arrangements to use the affirmation process to endorse Nwamgbafor as the party’s candidate ahead of the November 8, 2025, poll.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been locked in a deep crisis for the past month following the alleged poor outcome of the ward delegate Congress, which ended in stalemate and protests.
The APC cleared seven aspirants contesting for the party ticket.
Findings showed that none of the aspirants had received the guidelines for the primary election at the time of this report.
Worse still, some of the aspirants contacted declined comments on the development.
It was gathered that members of the primary election committee are expected to return from pilgrimage and, therefore, are to meet to brief both the aspirants and party leaderships.
One of the APC aspirants who pleaded for anonymity said, “I cannot say anything for now because they are being expected to return from pilgrimage and most likely meet in Abuja before addressing us.”
Also, another aspirant states, “We are not even aware of the type of primary election that they want to conduct, and we have not seen any guideline or timetable, and that is the bane of the APC in Anambra state.”
When contacted yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra state, Mrs Ugoma Lechukwu, disclosed that the Commission had received letters of notice from the three political parties.
She said that the Commission has been duly informed about the Saturday primary elections by the political parties
Lechukwu said, “Yes, we are aware of the primary elections to be conducted by the three political parties, and we are set to attend and monitor them.”
