Anyanwu declares interest in Imo Governorship

...says it is his turn.

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has declared that it is his turn to govern Imo State, noting that other prominent politicians who emerged from the old PDP structure in the state have already occupied the office.

Anyanwu, popularly known as “Sam Daddy,” made the declaration on Saturday in Owerri during the inauguration of a support group, the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy. He said former governors Ikedi Ohakim and Emeka Ihedioha, as well as the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodimma, were all his political contemporaries.

According to him, all three politicians have had the opportunity to govern the state, leaving him as the only member of the group yet to occupy the office. He argued that fairness and equity support his aspiration to lead Imo State.

The former PDP governorship candidate, however, acknowledged that political power is contested, saying he remains determined to pursue his ambition. He expressed confidence that the PDP is regaining strength and attracting more supporters across the state.

Anyanwu described the PDP as the party most trusted by the people of Imo and assured supporters that the party would not disappoint residents of the state. He also urged members of the newly inaugurated group to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts, particularly in rural communities.

The PDP chieftain warned against electoral malpractice, stating that the party would deploy agents to monitor polling units during future elections. He maintained that the opposition was prepared to counter any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

Anyanwu added that the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy is one of several groups supporting his political ambition, alongside the Divine Mandate and the Mass Movement for Sam Daddy, urging members to work together to advance his governorship aspiration.
