The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has officially launched its 2027 campaign season, launching an aggressive grassroots mobilisation drive aimed at securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and consolidating the party’s hold on one of Nigeria’s largest voting blocs.
The move comes despite repeated concerns about the growing substitution of governance for early political calculations less than midway through the current electoral cycle.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf unveiled the mobilisation strategy during an engagement with the APC Polling Unit Supporters Association, popularly known as ‘Yan Akwatina, one of the largest grassroots political structures in Kano.
The association boasts a presence across the state’s 44 local government areas, 484 wards and thousands of polling units.
Governor Yusuf left little doubt about the political objective.
“The re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 remains the best political opportunity for Nigeria to consolidate the gains of the administration’s reforms and infrastructure development.”
As part of the mobilisation effort, the governor announced a donation of plots of land and ₦100 million to support the activities of the association.
The governor’s Political Adviser, Mustapha Hamza Buhari Bakwana, described the engagement as the formal commencement of the party’s grassroots campaign architecture for the next general election.
“The association alone has the capacity to mobilise at least 1,122,200 votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The remarks underscore the growing shift in political attention towards 2027 despite persistent economic hardship and governance challenges facing the country.
The APC leadership in Kano believes the state’s political significance makes early mobilisation unavoidable.
State APC Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, argued that recent political developments had weakened opposition forces in the state.
“The party is firmly on course for a landslide victory.”
