The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will today screen its presidential aspirants for the 2023 general elections.

Among those controversially reportedly billed for the exercise, are former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, and Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige.

Announcing a new date for the screening yesterday, the National Organising Secretary of APC, Suleiman Argungu, yesterday in Abuja said the party will be screening the 28 presidential aspirants who obtained forms today (May 24th), and tomorrow (May 25th) at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja.

Earlier on Sunday, the party had postponed the screening exercise for the second time after it failed to hold last weekend. But no reason was given for the change in plan.

Key aspirants that have submitted their forms include Vice President Yemi Osibanjo; APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu; ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former Minister of Niger Delta Development, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Others are Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade; his Ebonyi State counterpart, Dave Umahi; Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; ex-Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba and former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani.

Similarly, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; his Jigawa State counterpart, Mohammed Abubakar; ex-Zamfara State governor, Senator Ahmed Yerima; former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu; former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha and former Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, are also not left out.

Meanwhile, an alleged plan by the National Working Committee (NWC) of All Progressives Congress (APC) to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan, Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Chris Ngige, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and African Development Bank (AfDB) President, Akinwunmi Adesina, is reportedly causing confusion in the ranks.
Although the four presidential aspirants have reportedly obtained nomination forms, they never submitted the forms to the party before the close of submission.

An online report yesterday said leading presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and other 21 contenders have also been billed for today to appear before the Presidential Screening Committee of the ruling party, at the Conference Hall, Transcorp, Abuja.

The seven-man panel set up by the National Working Committee (NWC), it was gathered, is made up of a member from each of the six geo-political zones.
The major work of the committee is to scrutinise the nomination documents of the 24 contenders ahead of the primary slated for Saturday.

Others billed for screening are Pastor Tunde Bakare, Senator Ajayi Borroffice; the only female aspirant, Uju Ohanenye, Pastor Nicholas Nwagbo, former House of Representatives Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, former Minister of Information, Ikeobasi Mokelu and businessman, Tein Rich.

APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Arugungu, said, “All the forms of the 28 aspirants will be taken to the screening committee on Tuesday, God’s willing, at Transcorp Hilton Hotel.”
