By David Onimisi Lawani
Following the viral video of mistreatment of a Nigerian Diplomatic agent in Jakarta Indonesia by her security agents, Ambassador Hussaini Coomassie, a UN SDG has said the apology is not enough as it is unheard of that despite Nigeria is a signatory to numerous diplomatic treaties, such treatment could be visited on one of her citizens.

Commission made this statement in a telephone interview as part of his reaction to the unacceptable torture stressing that it is unfortunate that Nigeria respects all diplomatic laws but wonder why other nations consider it right to violate hers.

He noted that virtually all diplomatic missions have been taught and abreast of how to handle different issues as law guiding diplomatic relations spelled out how diplomatic agents are to be treated in times of difficulty such as this.

According to him: ” We demand immediate suspension and subsequently sack of all the police/security men involved in that barbaric act, it’s a deliberate act that attracts maximum punishment.

” We can’t fold our arms and watch countries that are signatories to certain treaties/agreements persistently violate such agreements, while we continue abiding by the rules and protecting their diplomats in our home countries.

” The Vienna convention stated clearly as follows: ” The person of a diplomatic agent shall be inviolable. He or She shall not be liable to any form of arrest or detention. The receiving State shall treat him/her with due respect and shall take all appropriate steps to prevent any attack on his/Her person, freedom or dignity”, saying all security Agents were thought this in their training institutions, so how come they continue violating such an important agreement which has been in existence since 1961, Ambassador Commassie asked?

He noted further that the offense committed by the Indonesian security agents is a capital one, he however requested that all those involved should be severely punished to stop the re-occurrence of such evil and barbaric acts before any form of apology is accepted.
