Army denies allege invasion of Nigeria by Cameroon separatist group

By Linus Aleke
The Nigerian Army on Monday said that the trending information on the alleged invasion of some communities in Nigeria by the Ambazonian force is false and unfounded.

Ambazonian is a separatist group, operating in Southern Cameroonian.

Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement said the two communities attacked by the armed group, Obonyi 2 and Njasha, were all located in the Republic of Cameroon.

He, however, disclosed that troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of Nigerian Immigration Services rescued four Cameroonians who fled the attack into Nigerian territory.

The statement reads, “The Nigerian Army has been notified of a statement insinuating that Nigerian villages were attacked by Cameroonian ( Ambazonian) separatists on 29 May 2022. Contrary to the misinformation, our troops deployed at Danare received information on Sunday morning about the said attack. The troops immediately mobilized to the Bashu community, which was allegedly under attack. On their arrival, it was revealed that Bashu was not under attack and no external incursion was recorded; rather the separatists attacked Obonyi 2 and Njasha, both of which are communities located in the Republic of Cameroon.

‘Four victims of the attack, who crossed over to Nigerian territory were later rescued by our troops and operatives of Nigerian Immigration Services. The attack was, therefore, not within Nigerian territory as claimed’.

The statement enjoined the public to disregard the unsubstantiated information and not panic.
