The US Embassy Abuja, in a security alert dated October 23, 2022, posted on their official Twitter handle, disclosed that targets for the attacks include government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations.

The alert read in part, “There is an elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, especially in Abuja. They advised all US citizens in the FCT and parts of Nigeria to “ avoid all non-essential travels and movements, stay alert, avoid crowd, carry proper identification and to keep phones charged in cases of emergency.
This alert is coming at a time when security threats from insurgency appear to be on the decline ordinarily.
The US Embassy had in the past given security alerts to its citizens living in locations in Nigeria.

Two months ago, the FCT witnessed a major terror attack at the custodial center in Kuje was attacked and hundreds of suspected criminals and terrorists were set free.

The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) claimed responsibility for the attack. It was described by many security experts as one of the most daring in history.

Since the attack, there have been threats of imminent attacks in Abuja issued by the Federal Government and other international organizations.

Experts warned that the release of the suspected terrorists will worsen insecurity in the FCT and across the country.
