With the late Queen Elizabeth’s death last Thursday, the entire United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has continued to mourn her demise.
A few days after her passage, the late queen had withdrawn to her private residence at the Balmoral Castle to rest. It was there the new Prime Minister Lizz Truss went shortly after she was elected the new head of government of the United Kingdom.
Two days after their meeting, the great queen bade the world farewell. Expectedly, this has thrown the entire kingdom, the commonwealth nations, and the world into mourning.
Since last Thursday, eulogies and tributes have not ceased streaming in from dignitaries across the globe. The mourners began to gather soon after the news filtered that the Queen was under medical supervision and that her family was rushing to Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Soon after her death was announced there began a collective grieving.
Seven days of mourning were also declared beginning from the day she passed on. Notably, the Union Jack, the UK’s official flag, has since been flying at half-mast, while the base of the gates has seen hundreds of bouquets, including many with handwritten notes personally thanking the Queen for 70 years of service.
Outside the wrought iron gates of Buckingham Palace at the weekend, thousands queued up for their chance to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II and be part of a historic moment as the United Kingdom, and the world, mourn her death.
Others remembered her as a “grandmother.” “You have to show gratitude for this woman,’’ said Gali Franklin, who was writing out a card in Hebrew.
Franklin, 47, grew up in Israel in a kibbutz, or settlement, where many had British ancestry. She moved to the United Kingdom 20 years ago. “She represented all of us. All colours and mixed ages, nations,” Franklin said. “It brings us together.”
Among the thousands that gathered at the palace were not only devoted monarchists but office workers, students, and multi-generational families who wanted to experience this moment together.
Aside from the British mourners, leaders across the globe have expressed their grief. From the United States to the remotest part of African nations, tributes have not ceased pouring in.
Yesterday, the late Queen’s body arrived in Edinburg after a six-hour drive from Balmoral Castle in Scotland to lay in state.

Meanwhile, some unpredictable Nigerians have begun to cash in on the Queen’s passage as they have begun to make fun of the most serious issues.
Barely days after her death, Nigerians have begun printing the late Queen’s face on fabrics, describing the material as the Asoebi or uniform for the queen’s funeral.
They appeared in three different designs and fabrics Ankara and polo shirts.
They were spotted both in London and Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Boldly written on the lemon coloured T-shirt was Adieu Mama! and was reportedly being sold for N10,000.
