The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its ongoing strike by another four weeks.
Recall that ASUU had extended its strike by an additional three months, which was expected to lapse August 1st after the expiration of its initial two months warning strike, over the non-implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MoA) it signed with the Federal Government.
However, the union in a statement by its President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke disclosed that they agreed on an extension at the end of its National Executive Council meeting which was held at their national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday.
The union said the decision was reached to give more time to the federal government to meet its demands.
“Following extensive deliberations and taking cognizance of Government’s past failures to abide by its own timelines in addressing issues raised in the 2020 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action (MOA), NEC resolved that the strike be rolled over for four weeks to give Government more time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues
“The roll-over strike action is with effect from 12.01a.m. on Monday, 1st August 2022”. the union said.
