ASUU strike: Army opens fire at protesting students in Ondo

The Nigerian Army has been accused of shooting at students of various universities protesting the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities( ASUU)  in Akure, Ondo state.

According to reports, the students were holding a peaceful protest on Tuesday, when the military started shooting sporadically.

Empty bullet shells from the guns of the military men were seen at the scene of the incident.

ThisNigeria reported that some students of various Universities in Ondo state, on Monday,  blocked the Ilesha-Akure road to protest the ASUU strike.

The students are from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko and Olusegun Agagu University of Technology, Okitipupa.

They barricaded the road to vent their anger over their continued stay at home due to protected industrial action by the striking lecturers.

Their action forced many motorists and travelers to be stranded as they stormed the major highway at the main entrance of the Institution.
