Lekki shootings: “This is totally against what we stand for” – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has shed more light on the Lekki shootings.

Speaking to Arise News earlier in the day, he said that the security officers who shot at the End SARS protesters at Lekki got wrong instructions.

He has expressed shock and anger over the shooting saying that he found out about it from the wife of a member of his cabinet.

He stated that the officers were not supposed to be out until 10 – 10:30 pm

He further said that he has spoken to the highest level of the military hierarchy and that a judicial panel will be set up to investigate the shootings.

“The events that started around 7 – 7:30 pm came as a total shock. I don’t know how the officers got it all wrong because the instruction was that police won’t be out until 10 – 10:30 pm when all citizens should have gotten to their various homes. This is totally against what we stand for.”

“The army does not report to me. I have reported the matter to the highest command in the military. It’s not something we are going to gloss over. A judicial panel will be set up to investigate it. I have escalated it to the highest level of the military,” he added.

He also called on leaders at all levels to speak up and put an end to the protests.
