By Moshood Adebayo, Abeokuta
Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun has lamented the passage of Chief Tola Oyediran, the eldest child of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, describing it as a painful loss.
Oyediran, who would have been 80 December 1 this year until her death today was the Chairman Board of Directors of the Nigerian Tribune, the oldest privately owned newspaper in Nigeria.
A statement by the governor’ chief press secretary, Kunle Somorin, quoted Governor Abiodun as noting that Oyediran in her life time was an embodiment of humility and virtues. “She was also a great Nigerian in her right and stood as a rock of Gibraltar behind her very successful medical doctor husband, Prof. A.B.O. Oyediran, former vice chancellor of the premier university in Nigeria, University of Ibadan.
“Her success as a home maker cannot but be an irreparable loss to her immediate and extended family members and indeed a very painful exit.”
The governor noted that Oyediran was a central figure during her late father’s travails as a political figure and after the demise of Papa and Mama Awolowo.”
Abiodun, who prayed for the repose of her soul, thanked God for devoting her days on earth to serving God and humanity.
