Lagos-born Nigerian talented and fast-rising Afro-Highlife singer, Ekundayo Ogunbote, also known as Mr. Ekundayo and formerly known as Jayglow, is a native of Ijebu Ife in Ijebu East local government of Ogun state. In this interview with QUADRI AKANBI, the music star said going to church made him love music with passion, and that’s the best way he can express himself.
What first got you into music?
Church made me love music with passion and I realize it’s the best way for me to express myself well
What is your style of music?
My style of music is Afro-Highlife
Who inspired you to make music?
My first ever music teacher in church inspired me to make music
As an artist can you play any musical instrument?
Yes, I can play an instrument called Conga. lol
Talking about your last performance at the felabration, how were you able to control the audience from the different countries even though they don’t understand your language? For me, I feel that music is a universal language that can be understood by anyone. My performance at the felabration was awesome and I believed it was understood by many because it’s good music.
How many songs/albums have you produced so far?
I currently have a body of work out on all digital platform titles single and searching lol. It’s a beat with which I featured Ric Hassani and more beautiful songs.
Which artist are you looking forward to featuring on your next project?
Well, I look forward to working with lots of Nigerians because talents are too many
What are you working on at the moment?
Currently, I’m only trying to re-strategize and record, so I could come up with hits over and over.
What are the biggest challenges you had being an artist?
My biggest challenge being an artist is that I’ve been trying so hard to be heard in a while
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

Well for me, the internet has made things easy in all aspects. You can be in your comfort and over a million people can be listening to your craft and be happy or even sad with you (smiles). The internet I believe is the future.
Are you in support of DNA tests in the family?
DNA test matter ehn? Well, I’m kinda indifferent about it sha. lol
What is your embarrassing day as an artist?
I had a show one time, and I got to the venue and I was locked out until the event was almost over… I was super embarrassed that day o lol. A lot has happened in the past, but we bless the highest, say we nor de relent.
What does the word hunger mean to you?
Hunger gets a different meaning o, one could be hungry for food and also (Success) lol, But for me, hunger in my terms is passion. That’s one thing that pushes me to never give up and keep moving, gives me the real drive
Do you have any upcoming projects?
Yes I have a couple of projects I’m currently working on with my band, and very soon I will unleash the beauty
