Bishop Mike Okonkwo Football Tournament finals hold Saturday

It is going to be a battle of grit, skill, and hunger for success as Sam Jasson FC take on Team 360 this Saturday in the men’s final of the 2023 Bishop Mike Okonkwo Football Tournament which holds at the Yaba College of Technology mini-stadium, Lagos.

 

To reach the final, Sam Jasson FC defeated Opopo Oba Iwamumo in one of the semi-finals by 4-2 penalties after their game ended 1-1 in regulation time while Team 360 also recorded another 4-2 penalties victory over Cats FC in the second semi-final after playing a 1-1 draw at full time.

 

In the female category, Phoenix qualified for the final after walloping Dynamic Queens by 4-0 while Young Talents FC recorded a 5-4 penalty victory over Nakamura after playing out a 1-1 draw at full time.

 

Commenting on the finals, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor commended all the teams for exhibiting high sense of discipline throughout the duration of the biggest grassroots football tournament in the country, urging the finalists to ensure they play to the rules of the game on Saturday.

 

“I’m happy that this year’s edition is gradually coming to an end and I want to commend the teams for their excellent performance and conduct from the beginning of the competition to this stage

 

“It’s equally important I remind all the finalists to maintain that level of discipline on Saturday.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles player, Ifeanyi Ekwueme will lead other ex-internationals to grace the finals.

 

According to Deacon Ndubuzor, the presence of the ex-international is to serve as role models to the young players in line with the tradition of the championship.

 

The tournament which is sponsored by the presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREAM) Bishop Mike Okonkwo will also be used to celebrate the birthday of the Man of God.
