Presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar has come under fire for denying his tweet condemning the murder of a female student, Deborah Samuel over alleged blasphemy.
ThisNigeria reported that some students of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, on Thursday, brutally beat to death and burnt Deborah for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammed.
The action had received widespread condemnation from Nigerians, with many calling for the arrest and prosecution of the culprits who could be seen claiming responsibility for the heineious crime in a viral video.
Reacting to the incident, Atiku had tweeted against the actions of the students and sent his condolence message to the family of the deceased.

“There cannot be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends,” the now-deleted tweet read.
However, the presidential hopeful deleted his statement after several Twitter users of Northern origin threatened not to vote for him in the 2023 presidential election.
He took to his verified Facebook page to deny issuing the statement condemning Deborah’s lynching.
“This evening I received information that a post was made that doesn’t agree with my orders. I use this to announce that any post without A. A. is not from me. May God protect us,” he wrote.
