Professionals body express worry over incessant building collapse in Anambra

The National President of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Akinloye Oyegbola has expressed worry over the incessant collapse of buildings in the country.

He said it had become a cause for worry about the rate at which buildings collapse during construction works and urged the government and other relevant agencies to collaborate in nipping the menace in the bud.

Oyegbola who spoke through the Publicity Secretary of the body, Rawlings Ehumadu at the investiture program of Dr. Joachin Ulasi, Chairman, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Anambra state Chapter said, “Building collapse is a menace that is really giving us sleepless nights and we’ve been tackling it head-on as professionals directly involved.”

He noted that “Countless times, we’ve continued to issue statements targeted at nipping the menace in the bud. Even if it’s not eradicated completely, it can be reduced to the barest minimum.”

“Certification is required at every stage of construction. We call on government and other stakeholders to assist in ridding our societies of the menace.”

The APBN boss also called on the state chapter to partner and advice the state government to ensure appropriate policies to deliver good governance.

‘According to him, ‘Partner with the government to drive economic transformation through the formulation of positive policy framework in all the key sectors of the economy, to aid strategic planning.”

Also, the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, and Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Chike Maduekwe, appealed to the body of professionals in the state to shun all forms of misconducts

“Embrace standard ethics that will promote the image and integrity of the body. Do not get the body involved in unnecessary politicking. Be on the side of professionalism and best practices always,” he said.

Dr. Ulasi, Chairman, APBN, in his acceptance speech pledged to uphold professionalism through effective advocacy to drive the growth of the state.

He said the association would continue to collaborate with the government and other relevant agencies, the media, and other stakeholders in achieving set goals and solving problems in society.
