Boxing ‘ll feature at 2024 Paris Olympics- Omo-Agege

The uncertainty sorrounding boxing featuring at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France has been laid to rest by Azania Omo-Agege Siena, President, African Boxing Confederation(AFBC) .

Omo-Agege who is the Deputy President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation(NBF) after taking over the leadership of Africa boxing following the sacking of the former President, Bertrand Mendouga of Cameroun, confirmed that boxing is going to feature as a scoring event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“Boxing will be competed for at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as a scoring event”, but quick to add that is it not all the weight categories will be competed for as some class have been removed.

He also informed that Africa will be having their Olympic qualifying Championships in Dakar, Senegal from September 9-15, 2023 where the entire Africa will be fighting for only18 slots (11 women’s and 7 men’s weight categories).

Women’s weight class include two each in light flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and one in the middleweight class, while men’s event has one eah in the flyweight, featherweight, light-welterweight, lightiddlewight, light-heavyweight, heavyweight and super-heavyweght.

Meanwhile, the NBF has invited 14 boxers and three coaches to camp ahead of the Olympic Games qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal according to the Secretary General of the federation, Dapo Akinyele.

With the Brai Ayenote Boxing Gym as training venue, the invited boxers include, Wahab Kukoyi,
Rilwan Raheem, Fatai Moshood, Onwuania Ephraim, Adesina Zainab, Ojo Joy, Damilola Shodipe, Omola Dolapo, Ridwan, Sunday God’s Time, Hyginus Maduchukwu, Oyesiji Adeolu, Kemi James and Cynthia Ogunsemilore while Tony Konyegwacie, US based Adura Olalehin and Mosunmola are the three coaches.
