The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally released its timetable for nationwide congresses, fixing its national convention for March 28 and 29, 2026, in Abuja.
According to the party, ward and local government congresses will be conducted in February, while state congresses are scheduled for March, ahead of the national convention.
These decisions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the 105th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Life Camp official residence of the FCT Minister.
The communiqué, signed by Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, and Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, National Secretary, urged party members to embrace unity, discipline and loyalty in the collective interest of the PDP.
It stated that, “Pursuant to its constitutional responsibilities and in line with preparations for a smooth transition to an elected leadership, NEC approved and confirmed the following schedule for party congresses nationwide: ward congresses in February; local government congresses in February; and state congresses in March.
“NEC directed the National Caretaker Committee, in collaboration with the National Organising Secretary and relevant organs of the party, to issue detailed guidelines, notices and modalities for the conduct of the congresses in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution, INEC regulations and judicial directives.”
On the national convention, the communiqué added: “NEC further approved and confirmed March 28th and 29th, 2026, as the date for the PDP national convention, to be held in Abuja, for the purpose of electing members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party.”
The NEC also ratified resolutions reached at its 104th emergency meeting held on December 7, 2025.
“NEC unanimously reconfirmed, ratified and reaffirmed the full content, validity, force and effect of all resolutions and decisions reached at the Emergency 104th NEC Meeting,” the party said.
On recent court rulings affecting the party, the NEC reaffirmed its confidence in the judiciary, describing the rule of law as the foundation of democracy.
“NEC welcomed and affirmed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative arrangements and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee of the PDP,” the communiqué noted.
The party directed all its members and organs to comply strictly with subsisting court judgments.
It urged INEC and other relevant institutions to respect the rulings in the interest of constitutional order.
It also reaffirmed the legitimacy and mandate of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Anyanwu as Secretary, stressing that it remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the national convention.
The NEC further called on party members at all levels to remain united, disciplined, and loyal, warning against actions that could undermine party cohesion.
It concluded by reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to rebuilding “a strong, disciplined, democratic and electorally competitive party capable of providing credible leadership and governance to Nigerians.”
