Breaking: Super Eagles qualifies for FIFA World Cup knockout stages

Football loving Nigerians were kept on the edge of their seats Tuesday through 90 minutes as the Super Eagles struggled to a 1-1 draw against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in their last group c fixture of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Though the draw was not what Nigerians had expected, it ensured that the Super Eagles topped group c with 13 points to progress into the finals knockout stage scheduled for March 2022. Winner at this fixture which will be played on home and away format qualifies for the World Cup in Qatar.

The match, played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos saw the three-time African champions shot into the lead as early as in the first minute through Victor Osimhen but Cape Verde’s Stopira responded five minutes later to peak the Eagles back.

Stopira’s goal unsettled the home side but as the match went on, they found their range back and began to mount pressure on the visitors, making more goal attempts but could not found the back of the net as the first half ended 1-1 apiece.
