Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, representing the Cross River Central senatorial district, has awarded 34 law graduates N8.5 m in grants.

Recall that last year, 21 law students benefited, bringing the total number of beneficiaries under the Law School Grant Scheme to 55 since its inception in 2024.

The law graduates are all his constituents from the central district who have gained admission into the Nigerian Law School for the 2025 academic year.

Each beneficiary received a grant of N250,000 to assist with tuition and living expenses during the mandatory one-year professional legal training.

The beneficiaries hail from various Local Government Areas in Cross River Central and graduated from different universities nationwide.

During the presentation, Senator Williams said the initiative aims to ease the financial burden of attending law school and increase the chances of success for aspiring lawyers from the district.

“Many students face serious financial challenges that can derail their dreams. This support ensures they focus on their studies, pass the bar finals in one sitting, and return to serve their people.

“Last year, we supported 21 students with N200,000 each. Considering the rising cost of living this year, we increased the amount to N250,000 per student.”

“I urge the beneficiaries to be studious and remain prayerful, emphasising their success would benefit them individually and the larger community.

“If you graduate and start practising, don’t forget your people and constituency. I believe you’ll return to help others one day,” he added.

The Senator also hinted that a broader local scholarship program for postgraduate studies would soon commence

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Tasen Arthur Egbe, a law graduate from the University of Calabar, described the grant as “almost a miracle,” given the financial strain often accompanying law school enrollment.

“This gesture shows that we have a Senator who truly believes in empowering the youth and promoting educational advancement.

We commend Senator Williams for facilitating local and foreign scholarships for students in the senatorial district.
