Army notifies Kogi residents of planned shooting drill

The Nigerian Army has alerted residents in Lokoja to an upcoming military training exercise scheduled to take place over several days.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the unit will carry out its maiden annual Range Classification Exercise from March 30 to April 2 at the Chari Maigumeri Shooting Range.

He explained that the exercise is designed to improve the shooting proficiency of personnel while also boosting overall operational preparedness. It will further serve as an opportunity to evaluate the condition and effectiveness of the Brigade’s weapons in line with established military standards.

Abdullahi noted that the drill forms part of broader efforts by the Army to reinforce its capacity to address security threats, including banditry, within the region.

Residents of nearby communities such as Shettima and Zango were advised not to be alarmed by gunfire or increased troop movement during the exercise. The Army also urged the public to avoid the training area entirely for safety reasons.

He added that community members are encouraged to spread the information widely, including translating it into local languages, to ensure that everyone is adequately informed.
