Children’s relief organization World Vision warned against excluding almost 80 million refugees worldwide from the global drive to vaccinate against COVID-19.

Health and advocacy manager Marwin Meier said on Wednesday that “in the vast majority of countries they are ignored,” ahead of the G7 summit of rich industrialized countries in Cornwall in Britain.

Greece started vaccinations for refugees only last week, while Poland has excluded refugees altogether from its vaccine campaign.

He said there was evidence from only 20 of 163 countries that vaccine doses had arrived in refugee camps.

“This is more than vaccination nationalism,” Meier complained. Yet the risk of infection in the densely populated camps is at least three times higher than average.

The heads of state and government of the G7 countries – the United States, Germany, Britain, Canada, France, Italy and Japan – as well as representatives of the EU are meeting from Friday to Sunday in the tourist resort of Carbis Bay in Cornwall.

The fight against COVID-19 is one of the main topics of the summit.
