Public holiday in Zamfara to mark new year

Today, Friday 21st of August, is a joyous one for Muslims as it marks the start of the Islamic Calendar year 1442.
In honour of this new year, Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle has announced through the Press Secretary, Jamiu Iliyasu, that today is a public holiday for all workers in the state so a to celebrate the first day of Muharram, which is the first month in the Islamic calendar 1442 after Hijrah (AH).
The governor congratulated all Muslims and encouraged them to pray for the peace and prosperity of the state and country on this day.
