Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday ordered traditional rulers and local government chairmen in Rivers State to immediately relocate to their communities.
The governor, who gave the order laying of the foundation stone of the Ahoada Campus of Rivers State University, threatened to revoke the certificates of occupancy of the homes of traditional rulers and council chairmen in Port Harcourt, the state capital if they refused to relocate to their communities.
He said the certificates of recognition the government issued the traditional rulers were for them to live among their people and lead them and not for them to wear long gowns and parade about the state capital.
Wike promised to acquire accommodation for all past Vice-Chancellors of universities in the state. The last year promised to give all judges from Rivers State accommodation or N150 million in lieu of accommodation.
The governor said he did not see why he would develop areas outside the state capital if the people, particularly leaders of the communities were not living there.

He said the new campus of the Rivers State University in Ahoada would house the faculties of humanities and social sciences and said the location of the campus would boost business activities in the town.
Earlier, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche, has flagged off the first phase of the dualization of Ahoada – Omoku road, which the governor said would be completed by the end of next year.
