World Squash Championship: Team Nigeria arrive Canada in high spirit

 

Team Nigeria contingent to the 2026 U-19 World Junior Squash Championship holding in Canada from 26-31 July 2026, are already in Canada for the championship .

The team departed the country’s shores at the weekend for Ontario, Canada on board an Ethiopian Airline.

Made up of four males, four females and two officials totalling ten, the contingent include Yusuf Quadri, Shuaib Giwa, Benjamin Monday and Joshua Daniel for the male team, while team captain, Mosturah Durosinlorun, Delight Alison, Hawawu Balogun and Khadijat Abdulraheem competing in the female category, completes the list of players.

The technical Director, Jonah Attah and President of the Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF), Sunday Wilson Egberipou who is the leader of delegation are the two officials.

The NSF President is optimistic that team Nigeria will excel at the four-day championship which serves-off at Nagara on the Lake Ontario, Canada on Sunday 26 July, with the team events.

According to President Sunday Wilson Egberipou, the players taken to Canada are the best in the country at present and they were carefully selected based on ranking and performance.

It would be recalled the Nigerian team started camping at the Ikoyi Club 1938 with seventeen Junior players who were carefully selected by a team of coaches after rigorous trials.. The payers were later reduced to 12 ( four males with two reserves and four females with two reserves also).

Their camping was later shifted to Abuja for the final round of preparations.

At the end of the exercise, only eight payers ( four males and four females ) scaled the hurdles.

In his own assessment, Yusuf Durusinlorun, an executive board member, has joined the President in expressing optimism in tha ability of the Nigerian team to excel. According to him, the players were really drilled to let them know that the Canada trip is not a jamboree but serious competition.
