Corps member donates E-library to NYSC

As his personal Community Development Service (CDS) Project, a corps member, Mr. Ahmad Abubakar, has donated a digital library to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abuja.

Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, said this in a statement on Monday.

During the inauguration of the e-library at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, Abubakar with NYSC number FC/20B/1340, said the project was initiated to propel Nigeria’s library operations from a manual to a digital system.

Abubakar said that the manual system of library operations was obsolete when compared to global standards, adding that the digitized method for storing information needed to be promoted.

“I was inspired to initiate the e-library project to help expand the NYSC library and enhance its rich resources to corps members, NYSC staff and stakeholders.

“As the manual system of library operations is getting obsolete globally and not effective as it should be, l decided to convert the book materials into digital formats through proper digitization procedures for easy access.

“The “The computerization of the library was necessary to enable free access to library materials, including some NYSC publications that were only made available digitally to preserve them as reference materials.

“I sourced for sponsors for the project and with their support, I was able to set up the digital library with items such as a server, computer work stations, printers and professional book scanners”.

Abubakar thanked the project sponsors for their assistance and the NYSC for providing the enabling environment to carry out the project and unleash his potentials.

Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the NYSC Director-General, assured Abubakar that the library would be put to good use.

Ibrahim thanked the corps member for initiating and executing the project and charged other corps members to emulate him.

According to the statement, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council sponsored the project.
