Court remands man for alleged murder

The police on Wednesday in Lagos arraigned a 29-year-old man, Lateef Isah,  for allegedly shooting one Temitayo Obifemi to death.

Isah, whose address was not provided, is facing a six-count charge bordering on murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder and willful damage.

He appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, who has a  tattoo inscription “Lati” on his neck, was crying when the charge was being read to him.

The prosecutor, Insp Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 26 and April 23 about 1:00 p.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectively, at Orile-Iganmu, Lagos State.

The charge read in part: “That you, Lateef Isah, and others at large, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: murder and attempted murder contrary to and punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

“That you Lateef Isah and others at large, did unlawfully and intentionally kill one Temitayo Obifemi by shooting him with a gun, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 222(1)(a)(b) and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

According to the charge, the defendant also destroyed the front and back windscreens and side glasses of a Mitsubishi Space Wagon with registration number KRD 334 FM.

Ikhayere said that the damaged vehicle belonged to one Mr Shamsudeen Abdul-sajam and worth N3.5 million.

She added that the defendant  harmed one Tajudeen Oyinloye by stabbing him with a knife multiple times.

Ikhayere asked the court to  remand of the defendant pending advice from the state director of public prosecutions.

Defence counsel, Mrs Christiana Afokaranmi, did not object to the remand application.

The Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi, adjourned the case until Nov. 4  for mention. (NAN
