An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ court sitting in Ibadan on Friday ordered that a 23-year-old man, Kehinde Bamidele be remanded in a correctional facility, for allegedly shooting a trader to death.

The police charged Bamidele alongside Jimoh Kazeem, 37; Abdullahi Ibrahim, 21; Ojedare Tajudeen, 50; Tajudeen Hammed, 30, and Tirimisiyu Lukman, 21, with 13 counts bordering on conspiracy, murder, breaking, entering, and stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Olaide Hamzat, who did not take the plea of the suspects due to lack of jurisdiction, ordered that Bamidele be remanded in  Abolongo prison pending legal advice.

He directed the police to return the case to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.

Hamzat, however, admitted Kazeem, Ibrahim, Tajudeen, Hammed, and Lukman to bail in the sum of N1 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must have landed property.

The magistrates adjourned the matter until Nov. 4, for mention.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Ade Adebusuyi told the court on Dec. 29, 2018, at about 5 p.m., at No 67, Agbaje Road, Agbeni, Ibadan, the suspects broke and entered into a shop belonging to Aderonke Latinwa, and stole 13 cartoons of matches worth N101, 000.

He said the suspects also stole goods from other traders worth N1.2 million.

The offense, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 316, 383, and was punishable under Section 319, 390 (9), 324, 413, and  516 of the Criminal Code Cap 38,  Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
