A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, ordered that a 30-year-old unemployed man, Hassan Adamu, be remanded in a correctional center for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm.

The police charged Adamu who lives in Kankan Village, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano state, with unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

Magistrate Farouk Ibrahim-Umar did not take the plea of Adamu for want in the jurisdiction,

Ibrahim-Umar ordered the prosecutor to send the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) for legal advice.

He adjourned the matter until May 19, for further mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Elias Ekainu told the court that Adamu committed the offence on Feb.9, in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state.

Ekainu alleged that at about 3.52 p.m, Adamu had in possession two locally-made revolver pistols and four rounds of live ammunition concealed on the seat of his motorcycle.

The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 1,2, and (a)(b)(1) and 3 of robbery and firearms (Special provision) Act 2014 Cap Rill LFN as amended.

Adamu pleaded not guilty to the charge.
