Ondo residents groan, may affect Saturday’s Bye-election

Ahead of Saturday’s Bye-election in Ondo state, fuel scarcity has been biting harder.
To this end, residents are urging the federal government to proffer a quick and lasting solution to the problem.

Major streets in Akure, the state capital were deserted this morning as only a few vehicles and commercial motorcycles plied the roads.

Situation reports in the city and other major towns revealed a long queue of fuel users in a few petrol stations that they suspected to have the stock, most of which did not even ready to dispense to customers.

Some filling stations at Road block, Oyemekun road, Ondo road, Oba Ile ,Alagbaka, and Oda road, sold fuel between N200 and N220 per liter.

Unlike last week when some filling stations had fuel but dispensed the above-approved pump price, just a few now had the product.

Some motorists who spoke with our correspondent lamented the hardship the fuel scarcity had brought upon them.

Three commercial drivers, Yemi Odanye, Taiwo Julius and Ezekiel Rowland expressed disgust, stressing that the hectic situation they faced in getting fuel is worrisome.

The development according to them had had affected their business.

A lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) attributed the problem to bad leadership.

According to him, lack of functioning refineries in the country will continue to be hindrances to smooth running of economy in the country.

He urged the federal government to make them functional so that fuel scarcity could become the thing of the past in the country.
