CP warns youths against illicit drugs, urges DPOs to intensify raids on hideouts

The Commissioner of Police for Delta State Command, CP Ari Mohammed Ali has admonished youths across the State to stay away from substances capable of destroying their lives.

He gave the admonition on Wednesday in Asaba, the State capital just as he ordered that continuous raids be carried out by Divisional Police Officers in their areas of responsibility in the Command’s resolve to fight the menace caused by Indian hemp/controlled drugs dealers.

ThisNigeria gathered that the Commissioner of Police directive followed the interception of illicit drugs at some dark spots during raids carried out, on September 1, 2022, at about 2130hrs by the operatives attached to Special Anti-Cult Unit (SACU).

Police sources hinted that the raids carried out at Owa-Oyibo in Ika North East Local Government Area of the State led to the arrest of two suspected drug dealers, one Mrs Ogala Juliet (42) and one Ifeadi Macaulay (26).

Exhibits recovered from the duo included two bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and 20 cans of liquid substances suspected to be “monkey tail”.

Meanwhile, operatives of the State Police Command have recovered two guns from suspected armed robbers arrested at different locations in the State.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the State Command, DSP Bright Edafe.

One of the two guns, the police statement explained, was recovered from suspects intercepted by operatives attached to the Eagle-Net Special Squad while on visibility patrol along Issele-Azagba/Ogwashi-Uku road.

Acting on credible information on September 5, 2022, at about 1125hours, the operatives reportedly intercepted a tricycle (Keke) with Delta State commercial colour Reg. No. AWK 941 QC and tag No. DT/CT/10550B driven by one Anthony Onyekaba of No. 223 Asei Quarters Azagba Ogwashi-Uku with four occupants..

After a thorough search, one Eze Paul, aged 27 years of Okofia and Henry Dukkwu of Ugbetiti (28), both of Issele-Azagba in Aniocha North Local Government Area were arrested with one locally made double barrel pistol with two live cartridges concealed in a bag.

Also recovered from them were one Tecno phone, one Infinix phone, one OPPO phone, one APPO phone, and a cash sum of N5,750, according to o the police.

Also, on September 1, 2022, the police patrol team attached to Warri Area Command intercepted a suspicious-looking boy later identified as Conference Nyerhovwo, aged 20 years of Jesse town in Ethiope West Local Government Area, carrying a bag.

The operatives subjected the suspect and the bag to a thorough search, upon which one locally made cut-to-size double barrel shot gun and four rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the bag.

Consequently, the suspect was arrested and taken to the Area Command where investigations later revealed that the suspect was on a revenge mission, claiming that some suspected cultists murdered his elder brother named Ovie Nyerhovwo while he contacted his own friend who lives in Ghana who told him where he hid his gun.

The suspect confessed that he was on his way to carrying out the revenge act when the police intercepted him and recovered the gun from him.

The police said that investigation is ongoing in the matter.
